We have 10 purebred rescue cats, many different breeds, & all are over the age of 9 years old. The seniors!
For a couple of years, I tried many different good grain-free brands for them, searching for something that would not upset their stomachs, and that they would all eat. Most of that time I offered them 2 or 3 brands at a time so that they had a choice.
Finally I tried Royal Canin Special (this particular variety of the Royal Canins) because I had two little old lady Persians- 14 & 18 years of age who had very delicate tummies. This has really cut down on the tummy upsets and vomiting!! (Anyone who has cats is familiar with this!)
And it turned out that ALL of the cats love this food and stopped eating the other brands, so this is what we feed them exclusively now.
I have to say though, that as an advocate for cats and what is best for them, we do give them a good canned cat food 2-3 times a day too. It’s important that they get enough water in their diet to reduce the risk of UTIs- urinary tract infections, and some canned food is a good way to do that.
But Royal Canin Special is always available for them, and they love it!
It is expensive (especially with 10 cats), 🙂 but I can really see the results of having this good food in their shiny coats, and good health.
I buy it through Amazon for a couple of reasons. It is less expensive than the Pet supply stores, very convenient (& quickly delivered), and I LOVE that a little bit is contributed to my favorite cat rescue (Specialty Purebred Cat Rescue) every time I purchase through Amazon Smile!!

My cat loves this stuff and her coat looks noticeably better.

So far my cat seems to like it. She is a somewhat picky eater too.

I’m not a crazy cat lady. I’m not even sure if I’m a cat lady but I do have three cats. One of our cats started throwing up and having the runs before we put him on this food. I thought something was wrong with him, took him to the vet, and everything came back fine. So a chunk of cash spent later and I’m standing in the pet store, overwhelmed by the choices for sensitive stomach food. I had been googling different brands and their reviews. I wanted a non – paid honest review. Well, this is what this is. I put back Blue, I put back some hippie company I had never heard of after reading the online reviews and remembered that my vet had Royal Cainan at her office. So I took a chance. I started with the small bag and have upgraded because all of the cats are eating the really good stuff now. They were eating pretty good stuff before. I’m not a cat food snob. I just know that if you feed your cat good food, you will help them from potentially having some issues down the line.
The cat that I bought the food for ate so much the first day that he puked. Not because of the food, but because he liked it so much. Smh.
He was puking often enough that after switching to this and not having any puking, I wish I tried this before going to the vet. At least I know he is okay. So I’m a fan of this and so are all three of my cats. They are all rescues and not finicky eaters so I can’t tell you if your cat will like it, but I can tell you that mine do and we’ve had no issues in over a month.

I normally pick up the RC Special 33 formula at my local pet food supply chain. However, prices keep creeping up and now they want $29 (before tax) for a 7 pound bag. So this month, I ordered Royal Canin via Amazon, and also grabbed a bag of RC Indoor 27. I am saving $8 or $9 on each bag and it’s being delivered to my front door! All my cats gobble up the Special 33 (higher fat content than Indoor 27), originally intended for my vomit-breakfast cat, Sage. Generally, Sage does not toss her cookies after eating Special 33. But it always helps to give her Halo wet food first to settle her tummy and then the kibble. However, there was a different problem with my Special 33 dry food order. The first night, the cats didn’t seem interested it in and left a lot on their plates. Odd. The next morning it was gone so they eventually ate it. Next night, I happened to be in the kitchen under bright lights when I noticed the kibble looked shiny and wet. I scooped up some in my hand and it was literally oil soaked. Somehow this particular batch had gone wrong. RC headquarters in Missouri told me it was probably due to how the food was stored or shipped (very hot or very cold temperatures) that made the injected oils seep out. Who knows. I’m thinking perhaps it stayed too long under the appetite enhancer spray machine at the factory (they do that, you know). I threw it out and Amazon happily and easily shipped me another bag. Keeping fingers crossed that this bag of Special 33 will be just fine.
Update May 2012: After buying several bags of Special 33 Royal Canin and verifying they were fine when I first opened them, after a day or two, the dry food again became slick and overly moist. I have determined that the food is just fine but it is altered by exposure to air somehow. My kitchen is not too warm nor too cold so I don’t understand why the formula changes. One of the ingredients must pull in moisture, sort of like the latest and most expensive women’s anti-aging creams that hydrate.

My cat has food sensitivities, and he has been using this or another brand similar for many years. I switch back and forth between the two for sensitive stomachs. For some reason, he has been vomiting more and in a big way which he did before I realized he had food sensitivities. I honestly don’t know if it was this food or something else, but I needed to take a break from this brand just in case. He has been eating this food off and on for 4 years. I think it’s good to switch the food once in awhile since too much of one thing is not necessarily a good thing. I also switch my dog’s food every few years or so. I’m grateful my cat tolerates food like this since the cat I had before that could only tolerate an extremely expensive hydrolyzed protein prescription food. Right now with all the cosmic energies it is causing a lot of people and animals to have stomach upset, so it doesn’t necessarily mean it is the food. I deal with this type of information for a living, but take it with a grain of salt since it’s my perspective. One of my main symptoms during these shifts our world is going through is an stomach upset, and our entire house including all animals will have similar symptoms during major periods of shift. When there are major shifts of energy, everything can be affected since we are all energy.

Since I got it, my one-year-old kitty from the shelter, she was having major digestive issues. At first, diarrhea for weeks. After two different courses of medication, the diarrhea subsided however, she was pooping three times a day, and the most foul smelling feces I’ve ever known (I have had several cats over the years). My vet said the next course of action was to try this food. I also removed soft food from her diet.
After six weeks on this food, she is now pooping once a day, and the smell has decreased significantly. She likes the food and eats a lot of it, and runs to the bowl when we fill it again.
When we didn’t see an immediate response, we were concerned, however, the vet said that it could take upwards of two months (or more) for certain healing that needs to go on. It’s definitely been the case for us. At 5 weeks, she started marked improvement. It is expensive, so I am hoping to not have to use it forever, but for now it’s working, and I’ll wait until the vet gives me the go-ahead to start adding other foods, if at all.
Good luck with ur kitties if they need this!

Delivered on time. Bought this for my cat Mike who is recovering from Tea Tree & Eucalyptus Oil poisoning because he developed food aversions & not eating. The vet had “Royal Canin” & suggest a variety of foods to help him regain appetite & recover. He responded well to “Royal Canin Treats – Gastrointestinal” so I thought he would eat “R.C.F.Nutrition Sensitive”. So far he’s eating it but, not as ferociously as I had hoped; still recovering & sensitive. VERY EXPENSIVE. Do not like the chicken meal, wheat gluten, vegetable oil, & some of the chemicals I don’t know. but, appreciate the C’s, B’s & like kind supplements. As a pet owner, I want to know the exact ingredients, their % or amounts. R.C. does not list the %, amount or kind of protein & that’s a major need for most pet owners, certainly me. As a “sensitive” diet food, probiotics would be very helpful as well as some “alternative” herbal or supplemental digestive aids. I have used “Rocky Mountain Call Of The Wild” will great success prior to the poisoning. Please check out R.M.C. of the W”: integrity; listing quality ingredients, proportions, %; $22 – $31 per 15 lbs depending on where you buy or on sale. Not complaining just explaining. Thank You Royal Canin. Hope others can benefit from my experience. More later as Mike recovers. Prayers.
